Front Page Mayhem

Aight. First big post, so here we go.

My name in the SCA is Siegfried van Gotem. I live and participate in the Kingdom of Atlantia and travel when and where I can to neighboring baronies and kingdoms. For those in the SCA, you’ll know where I’m talking about. For those that don’t, you’re probably wondering what the SCA is and why I need a blog page. The answer is…complex and I’ll do my best to describe it.

Around the mid- to late 60’s, there was a birthday party thrown in a backyard out in Berkeley, CA. During that party, they did a Grand Tournament where they wore armor made of carpet remnants, helmets from refrigerant bottles, and historical costumes. Sixty years later, it’s still going and we’ve gone lengths for historical accuracy, recreation, reenactment, and having a wonderful time.

I got involved in the SCA around 2010 after a friend sent me info about a fighting group near where I live. Ended up going to a practice and fell in love with what I saw. I’m mostly a martial person, so I do the fight stuff: rattan, cut and thrust (C&T), archery. Recently, I found my niche for crafting, because I’m the kind of person who would see something and figure out how to make it.

Well, I figured that I should probably do more documentation and photographs, which is where this comes in. This blog is gonna be a mix of arts and sciences, martial activities, SCA ramblings, and my beloved personal event review. I promise to try and keep things organized, but we’ll see how that goes.

Well, without further ado grab a mug, make sure you’re hydrated, and let’s get to the chaos that is Vermilion Forge!
